About the event

The Neurobiology behind Sound and Healing or Why Music and Sound is not ‘mumbo-jumbo” Science has mapped the activity of the brain listening to music and have found that music stimulates many parts of the brain, often bypassing the defenses of the brain’s higher cortical functions and directly affects the limbic system’s emotional processing. Music influences the neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, endocrine, exocrine and digestive systems. It also affects metabolism, sensory reception, perception, cognition, emotion and motor functions. This class will explore the neurobiology of sound and music and why since ancient times, music and sound has been valued for it’s healing properties.
